{"id":5303,"date":"2023-05-01T22:26:40","date_gmt":"2023-05-01T22:26:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/greenseal.org\/?post_type=press-release&#038;p=5303"},"modified":"2025-02-25T23:42:46","modified_gmt":"2025-02-25T23:42:46","slug":"green-seal-certified-paints-now-leed-approved-for-multiple-points","status":"publish","type":"press-release","link":"https:\/\/greenseal.org\/press-release\/green-seal-certified-paints-now-leed-approved-for-multiple-points\/","title":{"rendered":"Green Seal-Certified Paints now LEED\u00ae-Approved for Multiple Points"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong><em>Certified paints meet criteria for Low-Emitting Materials and Material Ingredient Optimization Credits; Can also qualify toward Material Ingredient Reporting Credit<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Washington, D.C. \u2013 Green Seal announced today that Green Seal-certified paints and coatings now qualify toward points for multiple LEED\u00ae credits.&nbsp;In addition to meeting requirements for the LEED Low-Emitting Materials credit, Green Seal-certified paints and coatings now also are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usgbc.org\/credits\/new-construction-core-and-shell-schools-new-construction-retail-new-construction-data-20?view=language&amp;return=\/credits\/New-construction\/v4.1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">designated<\/a> by the U.S. Green Building Council to meet requirements for the LEED v4.1 Material Ingredient Optimization credit, making Green Seal\u2019s certification standard one of a select few to achieve this recognition.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, Green Seal\u2019s partnership with the Health Product Declaration Collaborative means that certified paints and coatings can also choose to qualify toward the LEED v4.0\/4.1 Material Ingredient Reporting credit, making the Green Seal certification mark a simple way to identify paints and coatings that contribute to multiple LEED points.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Green Seal-certified paints and coatings also are compliant with WELL v.1 and Fitwel standards and qualify to display Amazon\u2019s Climate Pledge Friendly badge.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Green Seal-certified paints and coatings that comply with both the LEED Low-Emitting Materials credit requirements and the LEED Material Ingredient Optimization credit requirements include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Alora Paints Matte Finish and Satin Finish Interior Paints&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Benjamin Moore Eco Spec\u00ae Paints&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bona Supercourt Optum\u00ae&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hillyard Star\u00ae Seal<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hillyard Icon\u00ae Gym Finish&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re proud to offer one of the only certifications in the world that aligns with the comprehensive goals of LEED, both in promoting healthy indoor environments and in offering solutions for material ingredient health,\u201d said Doug Gatlin, CEO of Green Seal.&nbsp;\u201cOptimizing for material health is a remarkable achievement requiring significant innovation on the part of these leading manufacturers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLEED certification encourages the use of materials that foster healthy indoor environments,\u201d said Peter Templeton, President and CEO of the U.S. Green Building Council. \u201cGreen Seal\u2019s paint certification raises the bar for protecting indoor environmental quality and offers a straightforward path for complying with the most health-protective requirements in LEED.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The LEED Low-Emitting Materials credit rewards green building project teams for selecting products that reduce concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).&nbsp;Green Seal-certified interior paints and coatings automatically qualify toward this credit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The LEED Material Ingredient Optimization credit rewards green building project teams for selecting products that eliminate hazardous ingredients and minimize impacts on human health and the environment. Green Seal-certified paints and coatings that pass an additional screen for GHS reproductive toxins qualify for points toward the LEED Material Ingredient Optimization credit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Green Seal certified paints and coatings that meet LEED Material Ingredient Optimization credit criteria and LEED Low-Emitting Materials credit criteria will have LEED compliance information on their certification certificates and in their product listings in the <a href=\"https:\/\/certified.greenseal.org\/directory\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Green Seal Certified Directory<\/a><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During a time of increased concern about indoor air quality, Green Seal-certified products are trusted and specified by institutional purchasers, facility managers, and green building teams across the world.
